If I forget thee, O Jerusalem

(Psalms 137, 5)

English (Left) & Hebrew (Right)

This is an age-old promise to never forget the ancient, beautiful Jerusalem that was destroyed. It expresses the longing for Jerusalem's redemption.

The painting at the center of the English picture shows the Tower of David. The Hebrew picture shows the Damascus Gate, the largest of eight gates that are part of  the wall surrounding the Old City.
