Nishmat - Every Living Soul

Hebrew papercut

Every living soul blesses God.

The Hebrew words read: The soul of every living being shall bless Your Name, Lord" (Morning prayer for Shabbat & Festivals; Passover Hagaddah).

The verse is highlighted by a gold background.

Nishmat is an important part of Shacharit, the morning service, for Shabbat and Festivals and is also a part of the Passover Hagaddah. The prayer is mentioned in Tractate Psachim (118a) and was always regarded as a special prayer. The great philosopher and poet, Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi (1075-1141), as well as the great commentator and poet, Rabbi Avraham Ibn Ezra (1089-1167), composed poetic introduction to Nishmat.
